Master Sesshu Ken is the founder of the Sesshu School in 1436. He introduced 8 new ryu (divergent forms from the original ikebana lines). | |
Present day masters of the Sesshu-ryu respect this tradition and continue to make arrangements consisting of the three main elements MAN (gyo), HEAVEN (shin) and EARTH (so) as well two auxiliary elements Hikae and Do. The number of 5 is important in Buddhism where it figures constantly. |

in 1868 Sesshu-ryu incorporated the Moribana and new Nageire styles, always maintaining the five elements on which Sesshu-ryu is based. The principal aim of the Ikebana is not only to learn a technique, to awaken an artistic urge, but more especially to arouse the heart to higher spheres. Only by so doing can one create an arrangement which reaches the heart of all people regardless of race or language. |
