Sogetsu School

sog1 In 1927, Sofu Teshigahara founded the Sogetsu School of ikebana, based on a more contemporary style and modern interpretation.
While his ideas sent shock-waves through the traditionalist adherents of ikebana at the time, Teshigahara's school grew into one of the three largest styles of ikebana in Japan with over a million students, and many more outside Japan.During the course of the 20th century, Sogetsu ikebana, much like other art forms based on contemporary trends, has been subjected to periodic changes. soh
bamboe To quote the Iemoto Sofu Teshigahara :

"There have been many forms of ikebana in the past and there will be many more in the future. The evolutionary process is inevitable as long as ikebana is linked closely to our daily lives".
